Whattya Listenin' to Wednesday - 2/27/08

Guttentag, readers! Another Wednesday is here and that means it's time for our weekly swap meet on who's listening to what.

I just want to say since reporting a few weeks ago that The Metal Minute reached a hit count of 50,000, another 11,000 hits have come since, which is tremendous growth in such a short time. Each and every one of you are the best and it is my joy to keep this site moving steadily, even when I'm about to physically crash from all that is my life as I did last night. The burnout is coming, I can feel it, but you guys are my inspiration, and I thank you.

Moving on, this past week the old school Chicago stuck to me like glue, though it was their monstrous debut Chicago Transit Authority album that won out over III (gasp!) and it had some stiff competition from heavy plays of Quicksand, Ace Frehley's Kiss solo album and now, the new Boris album, Smile, which got three spins just yesterday. I hereby declare Boris as the coolest fucking band on the planet right now, wowzers....

I have all sorts of goodies coming your way in the future including contests and interviews that I just need some night hours when I'm not falling out of the office chair in fatigue to get on the horn and complete, but trust me, they're coming and they won't disappoint... We're talking Dillinger Escape Plan, Warbringer, Overkill's original drummer Rat Skates and punk legend Dave Smalley, just to whet your appetite and there's other bands who've expressed interest that just need to be booked. Stay tuned...

So on that note, bring out your dead...

Chicago - III
California Transit Authority - Full Circle
Quicksand - Slip
Ace Frehley - Kiss solo album
Ace Frehley - Frehley's Comet
Boris - Happy

The Limit - Reinventing the Sun
Ill Nino - Confession
Aretha Franklin - Lady Soul
Palmerston - S/T
L.A. Guns - S/T

Dave, you hit the nail right on the head; there's a deliberation to my listening to mass quantities of stuff in my collection that's not on the review agenda, which is mostly to keep my passion going and my perspective as fresh as it can be.

Bob, good to see the Brains piece from Saturday brought them out in your playlist

Fred, it's still on the eclectic side, though...kewl

cjk, I'm almost tempted to do an Underappreciated Slabs piece on Another Perfect Day; certainly there are better albums, but I really dig that one hard

Ian, how long is your proposed new project going to be? If Vol. 4 is back in the mix, then I'm sure you're in a super-creative zone

David, there's your own cool title for this concept: Six in the Mix... I love it! You were on point with Toxicity

ray- i'm not a huge Motorhead fan. but you as you very well know both R. Scott and Steve have kept *encouraging* me to listen to them over the years so i've come to appreciate the 'head quite well. i actually enjoyed seeing Motorhead headline the second stage at OzzFest about (oh god) ten years ago.

metal mark- funny, Lovedrive is one of the albums that will appear on my list next Wednesday.

ian- i can't wait to hear ObZen.

bob- i love the White Album. glad to hear someone else posting hear likes it as well.

dave- i still remember hearing "Operation: Mindcrime" for the first time realizing it would be landmark record for metal.

Ray, sorry I've been busy lately and not around as much for a couple of weeks, I missed last weeks post because with school and drums and work, I just lost track of what time it was. I'd like to say the cd will be done in a couple of weeks but that's the problem when you work, go to school, have a family and kids, and also write and record, you record bits and pieces of tracks in between everything else. I know you have tons of things to do too and sometimes it's overwhelming and you work yourself into a daze.
Anyway I'd like to get the cd done in about 2 or 3 months but it might take even longer. It'll be about an equal balance between death metal and mellow clean guitar stuff. It should come out interesting......

cjk 44, the new Meshuggah is awesome. It might have even worked it's way into being my favorite cd by them.

cjk, count me in on The White Album love parade; glad you got pushed into could you have lived your metal life without them? LOL I saw them only once too about 4 or 5 years ago and since I've gone to so many shows I use plugs now, but out of curiosity I took them out for a second just to hear the full blast of their reputed boom and it was the loudest fucking thing I've ever heard...amazing

Ian, no need to tell me about being busy, bud. I'm probably guilty of being overambitious and it's enough to just keep up with our daily existence plus work a lot of OT and hunt for a child to adopt and get together with people, which even that becomes a chore these days with our schedule and everyone else's. Add on the duties to keep the site going every day plus the mag assignments which I just got assigned 11 pieces, plus I'm working on two books VERY slowly... Life is way too complicated these days; not like 20-25 years ago. Good luck as you work on the album, bro!

ray, i guess i ignored Motorhead as in my youth i tended to be the kind of music fan that needed to be impressed the first time 'round. that never happened with the 'head. but now that i'm older (and supposedly wiser) i'm revisiting Motorhead with a vengeance. hence the newfound appreciation.
