Whattya Listenin' to Wednesday - 4/21/10

Greetings brothers and sisters of the faith...

Hope everything's in Kosherville for y'all and hope you enjoyed the most productive week The Metal Minute's seen in a bit of time. This even with my wife having to be taken to the hospital plus a condensed juggling act of duties I won't soon forget.

Best wishes to my European audience as I'm sure it's been chaos and disorder with the Iceland eruption. I have family just now getting out of the UK after being grounded past their stay and will be ecstatic to see them. It really touched a nerve in me to see a lot of travelers sleeping under escalators in the airport terminals. Hope all of Europe and especially Iceland get back to normal. Also prayers out to the souls lost in the recent Chinese quake. Is it just me, or is the movie 2012 and the Mayan prophecies beginning to get a little too real for comfort?

Over at Dee Snider's House of Hair Online, my interview with WASP legend Blackie Lawless is up and running. Special thanks to Frank Delgado of the Deftones for a cool interview last week. In the latest Hails & Horns is my interview with Whiskeytown's Mike Daly about his metal book Time Flies When You're in a Coma: The Wisdom of the Metal Gods. Over here at The Metal Minute the proverbial burners are warmed with more good stuff on the way for you.

On a final note, rest in peace, Peter Steele. The man had a very quiet but diverse fan base, who are all now making themselves heard following his passing. Sad it was no joke this time...

Bob, just so you know, Transatlantacism has been growing on me. I think it's a very good album, I don't know about album of the decade, but I do think it's very good. There are a lot of nice subtle intricacies to the music, and the lyrics have a special kind of vulnerability that makes you feel more connected.

Jeff, I'm glad it's growing on you. I'd hate to see you miss out on such a fine album.

How was the C&C 7"? Was it as cool as it looked? Ray and I saw them back in 2002 (they and Thrice opened for Hot Water Music!) and they were really good.

Bob, the C&C vinyl looks awesome. I'm really happy with it. I think their latest album is their best yet, so I'm also really happy with the songs included. It would have been nice to pick up some more stuff but my local record store was pretty empty. Although there were a handful of Godsmack vinyls hanging around. I wonder why...

Bob, by the way, did you purchase any of those albums from Vinyl Collective/Suburban Home? It took a week for my Norma Jean box set to actually begin the shipping process, and according to USPS it hasn't actually shipped yet. Instead it just says that USPS has received an electronic confirmation to deliver it. I'm hoping that since it's Media Mail that maybe they don't give detailed shipping information. I'm patiently waiting!

That's hilarious that they had plenty of the Godsmack records laying around. It was weird to release a record by a band who is a joke among more "serious" music fans for an event that catered to those very people!

SH/VC isn't the fastest shipper out there, but you should have it soon. USPS tracking is terrible. I've received packages that have that same message. Anyway you look at it, that box set is a great deal and I think you'll really enjoy the package.

Ezra, I also bought Palomar III at a show. I caught them opening for Holly Golightly a few years back and they were one of those cool surprises. Both the album and the live performance were really good.
